Asbestos was used extensively as a construction material up to the late 1980’s and particularly between the 50s and 70s, when it was considered a wonder material. Since then of course the health dangers associated with asbestos have become widely known, to the point where just the mention of the word can induce panic. Although it’s use has been banned since 1992, it is still present in several forms, in dozens of construction products in thousands of buildings across the UK.

In reality if left undisturbed, asbestos can be harmless. It is only when broken and the microfibres released in to the air, that the material becomes a killer. Consequently, any work to treat or remove asbestos should only be performed by a specialist company operating in strictly controlled conditions.

HDR Environmental Ltd are fully licenced by the Health & Safety Executive to undertake work with asbestos. We work closely with our clients to understand their concerns and to provide solutions that meet their needs whilst always fully meeting legislative requirements.

At the forefront of our mind are the risks to the health of our operatives and to the environment in general. All our managers, supervisors and operatives are fully trained and qualified, with a full appreciation of the serious responsibility that they carry. Before any work is carried out rigorous risk assessments will be completed and a plan of work drawn up, all in accordance with the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations (CAWR) and the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP).

HDR Environmental work with clients across the spectrum - Local Authorities (schools, hospitals), businesses and the general public - on projects large and small.
